Hoosiers to converge on Statehouse for 2026 Renewable Energy Day

INDIANA Advocates for a cleaner, more affordable energy grid are preparing to descend on the Indiana Statehouse this month for Renewable Energy Day 2026.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, hundreds of Hoosiers from across the state are expected to gather in Indianapolis to urge the General Assembly to prioritize “energy freedom” and homegrown clean power. The event comes at a critical time as lawmakers navigate a 2026 legislative session already seeing bills introduced on utility affordability and solar zoning.

A Day of Action and Advocacy

The event, organized by a broad coalition including Solar United Neighbors, the Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter, and the League of Women Voters of Indiana, is designed to bridge the gap between constituents and policymakers.

The day’s agenda is packed with interactive opportunities for the public:

  • Clean Energy Fair (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.): Floors 2 and 3 of the Statehouse will host renewable energy businesses, nonprofit advocates, and technology displays.
  • Press Conference & Rally (12 p.m.): A central rally will feature community leaders and supporters calling for legislative action to expand solar and wind access.
  • Legislator Meetings: Coordinated groups will meet directly with state representatives and senators to discuss specific energy policies.

Organizers say they want to send a clear message that Indiana’s path to prosperity lies in homegrown clean energy. This is about creating a reliable and affordable future that benefits every Hoosier.

The 2026 session is expected to tackle several high-profile utility matters. Advocates are closely monitoring Senate Bill 196, which deals with community energy facilities, and Senate Bill 54, concerning zoning overlay districts for solar projects. These discussions follow a 2025 move by the General Assembly to officially recognize natural gas and propane as “clean energy” resources—a definition advocates are pushing to balance with expanded support for wind and solar.

Renewable Energy Day is open to the public, and registration includes a free lunch for participants.
