Odon residents face water shutdown and boil order advisory due to valve repairs

ODON Town officials have announced a temporary water shutdown today for several residential areas in Odon as maintenance crews work to replace a critical water valve on Park Street.

The infrastructure repair, which is part of the town’s ongoing utility maintenance, is expected to affect a significant portion of the local service area throughout the day.

The shutdown will impact utility customers living on the following streets:

  • South Grove Street
  • South Spring Street
  • Cooper Street
  • Burrell Street
  • Park Street
  • Race Street

Crews are currently on-site and working to complete the valve replacement as quickly as possible to minimize the outage duration.

Once the repairs are complete and water pressure is restored, all affected customers will be immediately placed under a Boil Water Advisory. This is a standard safety precaution required after a loss of system pressure, which can allow bacteria to enter the lines.

Bring all water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.

The advisory will remain in effect until the town receives results from two consecutive clean water tests, which typically takes 48 to 72 hours.

Town officials will notify the public once the laboratory results confirm the water is safe and the advisory has been lifted.

Residents with specific questions regarding the shutdown or the boil order can contact Odon Town Hall at 812-636-4321.
