Community Change: Endings and New Beginnings Define June 2025

BEDFORD – June 2025 marked a period of both endings and new beginnings for the Bedford community. As one organization concluded a legacy of service, another celebrated a partnership that promises to address a critical need for residents.

The month brought a bittersweet farewell with the official closing of the Bedford Noon Lions Club after 25 years of service. Founded in 2000, the club was a pillar of the community, known for its inclusive membership and dedication to various local and statewide causes. From organizing the Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive and the Limestone Heritage Festival to writing Christmas cards for nursing home residents, the Noon Lions left a lasting and positive impact. Despite its history of service, the club ultimately dissolved due to declining membership.

However, as one chapter closed, another opened with a new partnership aimed at improving the lives of local seniors. The City of Bedford announced a collaboration with Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corp. to build Limestone Edge, a new 32-unit affordable housing project. The development is specifically designed for individuals aged 55 and over, with a portion of the units set aside to assist those experiencing homelessness. This new initiative promises to provide safe and supportive housing, with a projected completion date of August 2026.
