IU Head Coach Curt Cignetti named Walter Camp National Coach of the Year

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana University football head coach Curt Cignetti has cemented his place in college football history, being named the Walter Camp National Coach of the Year. This marks the second consecutive season Cignetti has earned the prestigious honor, making him the first coach ever to win the award in two straight seasons.

The accolade comes on the heels of an unprecedented season for the Hoosiers. Cignetti led IU to a 12-0 regular season, the first perfect run in program history. The team’s dominant performance culminated in a thrilling 13-10 victory over Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game, securing the program’s first Big Ten title since 1967.

Since Cignetti arrived in Bloomington, the IU football program has reached historic new heights:

In both years Cignetti has served as head coach, IU has set a new program record for wins in a season. Last year, the Hoosiers went 11-2 and made their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff.

The team currently holds the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press (AP) Poll, a monumental achievement that is also the program’s first.

As the top-seeded team in the nation, Indiana University is now headed to the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 1967 season.

The No. 1 Hoosiers will face the winner of the matchup between No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 9 Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

The Rose Bowl is scheduled to kick off on January 1, 2026, at 4 p.m. EST.
