Daviess County to host free “Running for Office” workshop for aspiring local leaders

WASHINGTON — Residents interested in learning what it takes to run for local office will have an opportunity next month as Purdue Extension–Daviess County, in partnership with the Daviess County Clerk’s Office, hosts Elected Leadership: Running for Office. The program is free and open to anyone wanting to understand Indiana’s election process or explore the possibility of public service.

The workshop will be held Monday, January 5, 2026, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of the Daviess County Courthouse, Superior Court, located at 200 East Walnut Street in Washington.

Attendees will receive an overview of candidate requirements, filing procedures, and the local offices set to appear on the 2026 ballot. The session will also feature insight from current elected officials and representatives from local political parties, offering participants a firsthand look at community leadership and campaign expectations.

Organizers say the goal is to demystify the election process and equip residents with practical information, whether they are simply curious about how local government functions or are preparing to launch a campaign of their own.
