Step Back in Time: Lindley House hosts Civil War era Christmas event

PAOLI — The Orange County Historical Society (OCHS) is inviting the community to experience a simple holiday celebration from the past with a special Civil War era Christmas event this coming Sunday, December 7th.

The event will be held at the historic nearly 175-year-old Lindley House in Paoli, running from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Lindley House is located just off Highway 150 West on Willow Creek Road in Paoli.

Dining Room Historic Thomas Elwood Lindley House decorated for an old-fashioned Christmas.

The downstairs of the farmhouse will be specially decorated to reflect a modest Christmas celebration from the 1860s, allowing guests to step back in time for an informal tour. The site was the home of Thomas Elwood Lindley, an early Orange County Settler.

OCHS President Robert Henderson confirmed that volunteers will be available throughout the house to share information related to the house and its long history.

Adding to the festive, historical atmosphere, the musical group “Wildflowers & Weeds” will be performing period music in the front parlor of the home throughout the afternoon.

Guests are asked to enter the house through the front door. The tours on Sunday will be self-guided, allowing visitors to arrive anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and explore the furnished historic house for as long or as short a time as they wish.

Hot cider and cookies will be served in the kitchen area.

Admission is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted by the OCHS to help maintain the historic home site.
