Lawrence County Workshop to guide residents interested in running for local office in 2026

BEDFORD – Lawrence County residents who have considered running for a local government office are invited to a free public workshop designed to explain the process, requirements, and positions up for election in 2026.

Lawrence County Clerk Amy Voorhies, updated the commissioners Tuesday morning about the event, saying this class is for anyone who is thinking of running for any government office.

The program, titled “Elected Leadership: Running for Office”, is a collaboration between Purdue Extension and Lawrence County Elections. It is intended to create a community of local political knowledge and participation, with input from the county clerk, regional political parties, and current elected officials.

‘They will learn about what forms need to be filled out and when those forms must be filed,” she added. “Many want to run, but don’t know the steps needed to get on the ballot.”

The workshop is open to the public and is specifically for those interested in seeking a local office.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrence County Voter Registration Office, 918 16th Street.
