INDIANA — Hoosier drivers are getting a break at the pump just in time for the busy holiday travel season, with average gasoline prices in Indiana falling 12.3 cents per gallon in the last week.

According to a GasBuddy survey of 3,271 stations in the state, the average gasoline price is now $2.89 per gallon. This downward trend brings current prices 20.1 cents lower than they were a month ago, and slightly below prices from one year ago.
The substantial drop in Indiana contrasts with the national average gasoline price, which remained unchanged last week at $3.03 per gallon. Nationally, prices are down 2.0 cents from a month ago but stand 2.5 cents higher than a year ago.

The head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, Patrick De Haan, commented on the current market conditions.

“Ahead of the peak of Thanksgiving travel, the national average has remained relatively steady, holding close to where it’s been for the last few weeks,” DeHaan said. “With refinery maintenance wrapping up, we’re likely to see more relief soon, particularly in the Great Lakes and West Coast regions.”
De Haan added that the broader outlook is promising, especially with oil prices dipping below $60 per barrel, suggesting that many states could see further declines in the weeks ahead, benefiting holiday travelers.
While gasoline prices are falling, the national average diesel price rose slightly, up 0.8 cents from a week ago to $3.777 per gallon.
Gasoline prices in Indiana today are nearly identical to those seen one year ago, but well below those two years ago.
