BEDFORD – The Bedford Altrusa club held its Thanksgiving pitch-in meeting on November 10 at 5:00 PM at the Southland Church of Christ Annex, marking the start of a busy holiday season dedicated to supporting local community initiatives.

Supporting Essential Local Programs
During the meeting, members rallied to support several vital local efforts:
- Backpack Program: Members donated food items for the Backpack program at Dollens Elementary. This program helps alleviate hunger by providing children with food to take home when they are not attending school.
- Life Pantry: Sara Kern reported that 17 half-gallons of laundry detergent were delivered to the Life Pantry.
- Free Little Library: Susie Turner provided an update on the status of the Free Little Library in Avoca.
- Nursing Homes: Loretta Bailey organized the delivery of 20 magazines to each of 5 nursing homes.
- Core Nursing Home: Donna Rainey is currently preparing Christmas gifts for the residents.
Holiday Service and Fundraising
Bedford Altrusa members are deepening their commitment to service throughout the holidays by taking on several additional volunteer roles:
- Salvation Army: Members will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.
- Christmas Meal Baskets: The club will provide 20 Christmas meal baskets to needy families.
- Active Duty Support: They will assist the Hoosier Hills Armed Forces Families Association with providing items and covering mailing costs for Christmas boxes sent to active duty service members.
- Year-Round Volunteering: Members also volunteer at LARC and the Lawrence County Museum.
