Run-in the New Year at Fairfax SRA with the annual ‘First Day Trail Run and Walk’ Jan. 1

MONROE LAKE – The Monroe Lake Division of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will ring in the new year with a noncompetitive trail run and hike on Jan. 1 at 3:30 p.m., offering three route options and post-event refreshments for participants at Fairfax State Recreation Area

The event features 3.7-mile, 2.9-mile, and 1.3-mile courses. Participants can celebrate crossing the finish line by ringing a bell before gathering around a fire to enjoy soup, grilled cheese, hot cocoa, and a variety of snacks. More than 50 door prizes are typically awarded, and the first 300 people to register will receive a fully embroidered collectible event patch.

The program is presented by Monroe Lake and cosponsored by the Indiana Trail Running Association. Proceeds will support public events, programming, and interpretive activities at Monroe Lake.

Early registration is $15 through Dec. 15, and advance registration is $20 from Dec. 16–30. Registration is available at the event website here. Same-day sign-ups will be offered Jan. 1 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. for $25, payable by cash or check.
