Recall Wave: Jeep fire risk prompts ‘Park Outside’ warning; Lucid, Toyota, and Mazda affected

INDIANA – A substantial wave of new safety recalls has been issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles, including popular SUVs, luxury electric sedans, and motorcycles.

The most critical alert concerns a fire risk in plug-in hybrid Jeep models, prompting regulators to issue an urgent “Park Outside” warning to owners.

Urgent Fire Risk: Jeep Wrangler & Grand Cherokee PHEVs

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 320,065 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) due to a serious defect in the high-voltage battery that may cause it to fail, potentially leading to a fire. In contrast, the car is parked or in motion.

Safety Advisory: Owners of affected vehicles are strongly advised to park their cars outside and away from structures and other vehicles, and to refrain from charging them until the remedy is performed. This recall includes vehicles previously recalled for a similar battery issue, as the prior software fix was deemed ineffective.

Rearview Camera Failures Hit Toyota, Lexus, and Lucid

A common issue affecting a wide range of models from several manufacturers involves the rearview camera image failing to display, which violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111 and increases the risk of a crash during reversing.

This issue is being addressed by both luxury EV maker Lucid and a major group of Toyota/Lexus/Subaru vehicles.

The widespread nature of this camera failure often points to a software malfunction, which can typically be corrected via an over-the-air (OTA) update or a dealer-installed software patch.
