Bedford Public Library launches Annual Gingerbread House Contest fundraiser

BEDFORD — The Bedford Public Library is inviting the entire community to unleash their creativity for a cause with its first-ever Gingerbread House Contest. The festive event, running from December 8th to the 19th, aims to raise essential funds for the library’s programs, resources, and community services.

A Contest for a Cause

The community is encouraged to build the most festive and fun gingerbread house imaginable. While entries will compete for the title of “Best Gingerbread House” across several categories, the real winner is the library itself.

  • Entry is free.
  • The contest features four main categories: Youth (17 and under), Adult/Family, Business, and Nonprofit.
  • The gingerbread houses will be delivered to the library and remain on display from December 8th to December 19th.
  • The deadline for all entries to be submitted is 5 p.m. on December 8th.

How to Vote and Support the Library

The contest doubles as a fundraiser, with the winners determined by community votes. Everyone is invited to purchase voting tickets for their favorite creation:

  • Cost: Votes are sold for $1 per ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, or $20 for 25 tickets.
  • Every ticket purchased directly supports the library’s operations, making a real difference in funding free programs and resources.

Voting begins on December 8th and will end promptly at 3 p.m. on December 19th. The winner will be announced shortly after on the library’s social media.

Construction Rules

To keep the competition fair and creative, all entries must adhere to specific construction rules:

  • Originality: Entries must be homemade and original; pre-made kits are not allowed.
  • Edibility: All visible components—including walls, roof, decorations, and landscaping—must be edible.
  • Base: A non-edible base (like cardboard or wood) is permitted, but edible materials must fully cover it.
  • Size: Maximum dimensions are limited to 18 inches in each direction.
  • All entries must be family-friendly and include a name card.
