BLOOMINGTON – Nature lovers and community members are invited to participate in a special work day this week to combat invasive plant species and restore local wildlife habitats.

The Invasive Plant Awareness Day event, also known as a “Weed Wrangle,” will take place at Lower Cascades Park this Saturday.
Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, November 1
- Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Location: Sycamore Shelter at Lower Cascades Park (Intersection of N. Old State Road 37 and Clubhouse Drive)
- Meeting Address: 2851 North Old State Road 37

Volunteers will work alongside experts to learn about invasive species control while making a direct impact on the park’s health. Duties will include bending, hiking, and using sharp tools to remove invasive plants. Gloves and tools will be provided.
Thirty volunteers are needed for the workday. Click here to volunteer.
Safety and Requirements:
Participants are strongly advised to dress for “outdoor woodsy work” to stay safe. This includes:
- Long pants and sturdy shoes
- A long-sleeved shirt or t-shirt
- Bring a hat, bug spray, and a water bottle
The goal is to protect against overheating, scratches, insect bites, and ticks.
The event is open to volunteers aged 12 and up. An adult must accompany volunteers under 14, and all volunteers under 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian. The organizer advises participants to complete the digital waiver before arrival.
