Boys & Girls Club offers after-school care across Lawrence County, highlighting Mitchell’s site FREE program

MITCHELL — The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County continues to serve local families through its after-school programs, offering safe, engaging, and affordable care for students across multiple sites — including Lincoln Elementary, Shawswick Elementary, Dollens Elementary, Mitchell Junior High, and its iconic Bedford location at the Limestone Unit.

Each site provides a welcoming space for students to learn, play, and connect after school with caring staff and a wide range of activities designed to support academic success, healthy lifestyles, and positive social interaction.

The Mitchell site, located at Mitchell Junior High, stands out for its accessibility and community impact. Open to students in grades 4 through 8, the program is completely free for all participants. A generous donor contributed enough money to cover registration fees for Mitchell’s youth for the first 2 years of the site’s opening. Youth from Burris Elementary are transported by bus to the Mitchell site, ensuring that families have a convenient option for quality after-school care. Private and homeschool students are also welcome to attend.

The program operates Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. on regular school days and provides a structured environment filled with homework help, games, and enrichment activities. Families can enroll by registering for both a Mitchell Membership and After School through the Club’s Parent Portal.
