INDIANA — The Indiana State Police (ISP) is partnering once again with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to host the nationwide “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative on Saturday, October 25th.

The initiative aims to combat the high rates of prescription drug abuse, misuse, and theft by providing a safe, free, and anonymous way for the public to dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted medications. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are often obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Collection sites will accept:
- Pill and liquid medications.
- Vaping pens (batteries must be removed).
- Vaping cartridges.
Needles, new or used, WILL NOT be accepted for disposal.
In addition to preventing addiction and theft, this program ensures proper disposal, addressing the safety and health hazards associated with flushing medicines down the toilet or throwing them in the trash.
Unwanted medications can be dropped off at any Indiana State Police Post, except the Toll Road Post.
The main collection event will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
To locate the State Police Post closest to you, you can use the Indiana State Police map. To find other participating locations across Indiana or the U.S., visit the DEA’s website for the Drug Take Back initiative.
