BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University has secured the long-term future of its highly successful football program, announcing on Thursday a massive eight-year contract extension for head coach Curt Cignetti. The new deal ties Cignetti to Bloomington until November 30, 2033, and establishes him as one of the highest-compensated coaches in college football.

Cignetti’s new contract carries an average annual compensation of $11.6 million, reflecting the meteoric rise of the IU Football program under his leadership.
The extension comes after an unprecedented start to Cignetti’s tenure, during which the Hoosiers have transformed into a national powerhouse. In just over a season and a half, IU Football has compiled a remarkable 17-2 record.
Indiana University President Pamela Whitten highlighted the program’s recent achievements, including last year’s College Football Playoff appearance and its current top-3 national ranking.
The success began in earnest in 2024, Cignetti’s first season, where he guided the Hoosiers to an 11-1 regular season and the university’s first-ever College Football Playoff berth. He was named both National and Big Ten Coach of the Year for his efforts.
The winning ways have continued into the 2025 season. Indiana currently boasts a 6-0 start and is ranked No. 3 in the country after key victories over two top-10 programs, including a decisive win over Oregon.
IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson emphasized that the extension was the top priority in the university’s commitment to championship-level football, noting that the number one priority was ensuring that Coach Cignetti remains the leader of the IU football program. Dolson praised Cignetti for believing in the program’s potential and turning that belief into reality.
