INDIANA — Residents across a four-county region are being called upon to help clean up local waterways this October by participating in the “No Trash in the River” contest.

The initiative, sponsored by the Lower East Fork White River Watershed 319 Grant, aims to remove litter from areas that feed into the White River, promoting healthier water quality throughout the region.
Families, friends, and community groups in Dubois, Martin, Pike, and Daviess counties are encouraged to spend time picking up trash in local outdoor areas throughout the month. Participants are even welcome to wear Halloween costumes to make the cleanup a fun, seasonal activity.
To enter the contest, participants must clean an outdoor area and email a photo of their cleanup efforts to Watershed Coordinator Julie Loehr at Julia.loehr@in.nacdnet.net by the submission deadline of November 3, 2025.
A committee will select winners, who will receive prizes and be recognized by their respective local Soil and Water Conservation District.
In addition to the self-directed cleanup contest, organizers plan to host several in-person county cleanup sessions. Residents interested in specific dates and locations for these organized events should contact Julie Loehr directly at 812-779-7924.
