SWITZ CITY – Bird enthusiasts and nature lovers are invited to test their identification skills at the Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area’s annual Big Sit event on Saturday, October 12.

The Big Sit is a semi-competitive, international birding event where participants challenge themselves to identify as many different bird species as possible within a single 17-foot diameter circle in one day.
The free, all-ages event will be held outdoors at the Goose Pond Visitors Center and will run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Participants are welcome to stop by for as long or as short a time as they wish to count birds or enjoy the setting.

For comfort and accessibility:
- The Visitor’s Center will be air-conditioned, providing a cool place to relax.
- The area around the center features a paved pathway, offering accessible terrain for the event.
Those planning to attend the free event are asked to register. The DNR values access for all participants and will provide reasonable accommodation upon request. To request an accommodation or discuss concerns, please contact Ethan Plumier at GoosePondFWA@dnr.IN.gov or 812-512-9185 at least one week prior to the event.
