INDIANA – A local fellowship program has received a generous grant from the Herbert Simon Family Foundation to support its efforts in policy change. The funding will provide two fellowships for individuals focused on addressing basic needs and environmental justice issues.

Additionally, thanks to the Pritzker Children’s Initiative, a third fellowship is being explicitly offered to new parents of children between the ages of 0 and 3, with a focus on the needs of young families.
The paid, ten-month fellowships are designed for applicants who have direct experience with financial hardship. Fellows will work closely with Institute staff and network partners, gaining hands-on experience in research and policy advocacy. The commitment is just five to seven hours a week, making it accessible to working individuals, students (particularly those in skills training programs or community college), and caregivers.
Applications are due by September 22, 2025, and the fellowships will run from mid-October through mid-August 2026.
Interested applicants can review the fellowship description and apply online at givebutter.com/dchwalk or by using the simplified application and emailing additional materials. For more information, please get in touch with Angie Steiner at 812-254-8858.
