BNL PAC to be renamed in honor of Guy Rumsey at Oct. 3 dedication ceremony

BEDFORD The Bedford North Lawrence High School Performing Arts Center will soon bear the name of a man who helped shape the district’s music program for decades. On Friday, October 3, the facility will officially be dedicated as the Guy Rumsey Performing Arts Center during a community ceremony beginning at 6 p.m.

The evening will open with a ribbon-cutting at the PAC entrance led by Mayor Sam Craig, followed by light refreshments in the lobby. At 6:30 p.m., guests will gather inside for a short program featuring a plaque presentation honoring Rumsey, performances by an orchestra made up of alumni and current students, and a finale conducted by Rumsey himself. The celebration will conclude with remarks from Bedford North Lawrence Principal Matthew Canada.

In preparation for the dedication, the district has made several upgrades to the facility, including improved audio and visual systems as well as new signage in the lobby and entryways.

Rumsey, who served as NLCS’s longtime Music Curriculum Coordinator and the first orchestra director at BNL, is credited with not only building strong music programs but also fostering a culture that has inspired generations of students. His leadership and vision helped establish the Performing Arts Center as a cornerstone for arts education in the community.

By naming the facility in his honor, school officials hope to ensure that Rumsey’s legacy lives on through the students who continue to take the stage where music, education, and community come together.
