Valparaiso man drowns in Porter County’s Long Lake

PORTER CO. – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an incident yesterday in which a Valparaiso man drowned in Long Lake.

At 6:17 p.m., conservation officers responded to the area near the 600 block of West Long Lake Road on a report of a person going in the water and not resurfacing.

First responders from multiple agencies arrived on scene and initiated search operations.

At 7:02 p.m., a Portage Fire Department boat recovered the body of Sean Ryan, 42, of Valparaiso. Despite lifesaving efforts, Ryan was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The incident is still under investigation.

Other assisting agencies included the Porter County Sheriff’s Office, Chesterton Fire Department, Town of Porter Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department, Burns Harbor Fire Department, Northwest Health Emergency Medical Services, and the Porter County Coroner’s Office.
