Milly’s Lottery Pool wins $9.9 million jackpot in Columbus

COLUMBUS A group of five Columbus-area residents who call themselves “Milly’s Lottery Pool” have claimed a $9.9 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot. The winning ticket, which matched all six numbers in the August 16 drawing, was purchased at Jack’s Place, located at 910 3rd St. in Columbus.

The five friends—Milly, Tony, Kendra, Jenny, and Roxanne—have been playing Hoosier Lotto together for 11 years, having met at a factory job. They opted for the cash value of the prize, totaling $4,682,171, to be divided among five recipients.

The Big Win

Milly, who runs a YouTube channel called “Oldladyscratcher,” is the group’s organizer. On August 18, she was scanning the ticket on the Hoosier Lottery app when she discovered the prize was too large to be claimed at a retailer. She quickly checked the winning numbers, 1-21-26-31-33-34, and realized they had won the jackpot. Her immediate message to the group, “OMG! Everyone, we hit it. We won!”, set off a wave of stunned reactions.

  • Tony said his phone “nearly jumped off the counter” with notifications.
  • Kendra initially thought the call was a “butt dial” and couldn’t believe the news.
  • Jenny had just read a news story about a winning ticket being sold in Columbus and wished it were her, only to get Milly’s message then.
  • Roxanne received the news minutes before boarding a flight for an Alaskan cruise, but the group patiently waited for her to return home to claim the prize.

According to Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah M. Taylor, this is the third Hoosier Lotto jackpot win of the year. The retailer, Jack’s Place, will receive a check for nearly $100,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The winners shared that the money will help “take weight off their shoulders,” with plans to purchase new cars, new houses, and save for the future. Sources
