New Albany shuts down BNL 7-0

BEDFORD – New Albany scored five goals during the closing minutes of the first half while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 7-0 during girls high school soccer action on Saturday.

Clara Railey recorded a hat trick for the Bulldogs, while BNL (0-4) fell to 0-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.

Bailey Belden got New Albany started with the first goal at 24:29 of the first half. Railey posted her first goal just 51 seconds later, and Belden notched her second goal at 12:57.

The Bulldogs closed the half with scores from Avery Holder (5:57) and Isabella Sanchez (1:30).

Railey completed her hat trick with second-half goals at 31:43 and 17:22.

“I didn’t think we played bad, but they were another tough team with very skilled players that knew how to move the ball around the field,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “They were hard to stop in front of the goal and the middle of the field. Our goalie (Lauren Crozier) made some incredible saves. They were firing shot after shot at us.

“We did have a couple of offensive opportunities. Summer Hughes had a breakaway and a one-on-one shot, but unfortunately it was saved by their keeper.”

The Stars will host Owen Valley on Tuesday.
