Domestic disturbance leads to arrest of Mitchell man

MITCHELL — A Mitchell man is facing charges of domestic battery and intimidation after Mitchell Police Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sunday night, August 17.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Garrett Jacobs of the Mitchell Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on South 1st Street. Upon arrival, they located Sean E. Spencer, 52, who was sitting alone on a couch. A preliminary breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.201.

The affidavit states that Spencer’s family had left the residence and later returned to speak with officers. The family alleged that Spencer had become violent, hitting his mother with a closed fist, jumping on another individual, and throwing a glass of water. A family member also provided a voicemail from Spencer that included a threat to “burn this place to the ground.”

Spencer was arrested and transported to IU Health Bedford for medical clearance before being taken to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
