“A Moment in Time: The Photography of Gary Potts” photography exhibition opens Saturday, August 23

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Museum of History is pleased to announce “A Moment in Time: The Photography of Gary Potts,” a captivating new exhibition celebrating the beauty and power of color photography through the evocative work of Gary Potts. The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. and will be on display through Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the Lawrence County Museum of History Community Gallery.

Moment in Time” invites viewers to experience a world transformed by the interplay of light and color, showcasing the unique perspectives and technical mastery of Gary Potts. The exhibition explores themes of nature, rural landscapes, and the human condition through a stunning array of meticulously composed and expertly printed photographs on canvas.

Potts offers a fresh and insightful perspective on the world around us through the mindful observation of his camera lens. The vibrant hues and intricate details captured in these images are truly breathtaking and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our visitors.”

Gary Potts, a native of Bedford, is a graduate of Bedford High School and Purdue University, where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering. Photography offered him a unique opportunity to have a diverse college experience. He photographed for the daily student newspaper, The Exponent, and became the Photo Editor of the Purdue yearbook, The Debris, in 1968. He also spent considerable time in the darkroom, continually interested in learning and refining his skills as a photographer and printer.

After college, Gary worked for more than 34 years at Eli Lilly & Company. His various assignments with Lilly took him to multiple locations, where he continued to pursue his passion for photography in his spare time. In 1979, he joined the Photographic Society of America and has since become a Fellow of the organization, ultimately achieving the level of Grand Master in competition.

This exhibition provides Gary with an opportunity to showcase the history of his photographic journey through canvas printing to present a diverse collection of images, locations, and subjects.
