Child molestation charges dismissed against Salem man

SALEM A 35-year-old Salem man arrested earlier this month on child molestation charges has been released after the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the case.

Jeremy W. Underwood

Prosecutor Tara Coats Hunt announced the decision to dismiss the three charges against Jeremy W. Underwood after re-assessing the evidence. In a written statement, Hunt explained that after reviewing the “totality of evidence obtained through the ongoing investigation,” proceeding with the case “would have been unjust to the parties involved.”

“While these decisions are never easy, they are essential to ensuring that the pursuit of justice remains fair, ethical, and in accordance with the law,” Hunt said.

The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Indiana Department of Child Services. The court has since ordered the charges to be dismissed and Underwood’s release.
