Bloomington Farmers’ Market to host tomato tasting, music, and city officials

BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is set to offer a full slate of activities this Saturday, August 16th, including its annual heirloom tomato tasting, live music, and a chance for residents to connect with city leadership.

A Celebration of Local Flavor

The market, known for its locally grown and baked goods, will feature its annual Heirloom Tomato Tasting from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Fernandez Plaza. Attendees can sample a variety of tomatoes, which, unlike their supermarket counterparts, are picked at peak ripeness for maximum flavor and nutrition. The tasting is free while supplies last.

The market emphasizes a family-friendly atmosphere, encouraging children to engage directly with vendors to learn about where their food comes from. For those with a sweet tooth, kettle corn will also be available.

Music at the Market

Bill Vincent

Adding to the morning’s atmosphere, multi-talented pianist Bill Vincent will perform two sets on the Circular Stage, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Vincent, who has a long career performing pop and classic standards, is a familiar face at the market.

Mayor’s Team at the Table

Jane Kupersmith

This Saturday also provides an opportunity for residents to interact with local government officials through the Mayor’s Team at the Table program. Jane Kupersmith, Director of Economic & Sustainable Development, will be greeting the public from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to answer questions and discuss community issues.
