BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council (LCEGC), in partnership with the Wagler Education and Training Center, is expanding its commitment to local workforce development by offering new skills-based training programs. These courses provide pathways to certification and employment in high-demand fields, and registration is closing soon.
A mandatory in-person registration for both programs will be held on August 18th at 4 p.m. at the Bedford North Lawrence Career Center, located at 258 BNL Dr, Bedford, IN.
Grant funding is available for both courses, and a high school diploma or GED is not a prerequisite for enrollment. However, students who do not have a diploma or GED must be willing to work toward one.
Certified Welder Course
This five-week evening course, led by instructor Mike Tuell, will run from September 3 to October 2. Classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the North Lawrence Career Center. The curriculum covers FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding methods. Participants who successfully earn certification will be eligible for direct entry into the Millwright apprenticeship program through IKORCC.
NCCER Core Construction Certification
Instructor Tyler Kalber will lead this course, which also runs from September 3 to October 2 at the North Lawrence Career Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The program offers hands-on training in basic construction skills and includes new modules on an introduction to electrical work, residential wiring, and electrical tools. This certification is a national credential recognized across the construction industry.
