Red Cross seeking Type O or B Negative blood donations

INDIANA – This August, in honor of National Wellness Month, the American Red Cross is encouraging people to both prioritize their health and help save lives by donating blood. All blood types are needed, but there is a special need for donors with Type O or B Negative blood.

To sweeten the deal, the Red Cross is offering a free A1C screening to all who make a successful blood, platelet, or plasma donation this month. This screening is a standard test used to check for prediabetes and diabetes. Fasting is not required for the test.

Donors will be able to access their confidential results online through the Blood Donor App or their donor account at RedCrossBlood.org within one to two weeks. Donors are eligible for one A1C test result per 12-month period.
