Body of Washington woman recovered in White River

DAVIESS CO. – Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of a Washington woman was recovered yesterday from the White River, following an incident where two swimmers were swept downstream.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, conservation officers were dispatched to the Maysville Public Access Site after receiving a report of two individuals swept downriver while swimming.

Upon arrival, DNR Law Enforcement personnel successfully rescued one of the victims, a juvenile, from a sandbar located downstream. However, the body of

Kathrynn Bottoms, 21, of Washington, was later recovered from the river.

The rescued juvenile was transported to Daviess Community Hospital for medical evaluation.

Assisting agencies at the scene included the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Daviess Community Hospital Emergency Medical Services.

Indiana Conservation Officers remind the public of the critical importance of always wearing a life jacket when on or around the water.
