Owen Valley students help raise $45,000 for McCormick’s Creek Park Restoration

SPENCER – Students from Owen Valley High School have played a significant role in raising nearly $45,000 for restoration efforts at McCormick’s Creek State Park, which was extensively damaged by a tornado in March 2023.

The twister caused widespread destruction, particularly to the park’s campground and nearby trails, including the closure of a bridge on Trail 5 that limited access to the popular Wolf Cave path.

In response, Owen Valley’s Students for the Planet Group formed “Patriots for the Park” to spearhead fundraising efforts aimed at reopening the trail. Through various fundraisers, contributions from the Indiana Parks Alliance and the Friends of McCormick’s Creek State Park, and a matching grant from the Owen County Community Foundation, the impressive sum was achieved to aid the park’s recovery.
