JASPER— Visitors to this year’s Jasper Strassenfest can step back in time with a variety of local heritage experiences on Saturday, August 2, including historic train rides and open-house tours at landmark sites around town.

One of the highlights will be 1-hour train rides on the Spirit of Jasper, departing throughout the day at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online at spiritofjaspertrain.com or by calling (812) 482-5959. A cash bar and snacks will be available onboard.
Several historical sites will also host special hours and demonstrations during the festival. The Alexander One-Room Schoolhouse will be open for tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with showings of the film Banished into Paradise at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

The Jasper City Mill will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring grist mill demonstrations, a coffee display, and handcrafted bowl presentations by local carpenters.

Meanwhile, the historic Schaeffer Barn will welcome guests from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with stone cutting demonstrations scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
