
INDIANAPOLIS – A 19-year-old was arrested yesterday for allegedly shooting a man driving on I-70 near Shadeland Avenue. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., Indiana State Police Dispatchers received a 911 call about an interstate shooting on I-70.
Troopers quickly responded to the area and found an adult male inside a Toyota Camry on the right shoulder with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound; multiple bullet holes were also found in the side of the Toyota.
Indiana State Police Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. Detectives were able to generate multiple leads on a possible suspect vehicle, which subsequently led them to the suspect. With the assistance of IMPD’s Violence Reduction Team Northwest District, 19-year-old Jonathan Avila-Molina of Indianapolis was taken into custody on July 1, 2025. During this investigation, multiple firearms were seized, and a juvenile was also arrested for possession of a firearm.
Avila-Molina was incarcerated in the Marion County Jail and faces the preliminary charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
All crimes mentioned in this release are alleged, and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. The charges listed are preliminary; the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine actual charges.Â
