DUGGER — The southwest Indiana community of Dugger erupted in celebration this week, providing a heartwarming welcome home for Teigan McCammon, a 9-year-old boy returning from the hospital over a month after a tragic EF-2 tornado severely injured him and claimed the life of his mother, Allison.

On Wednesday night, hundreds of people of all ages lined the streets of Dugger, where Teigan and his siblings attend school. Supporters showcased their love for the young boy, adorning their vehicles and wearing “Teigan Strong” T-shirts, many of which featured a dirt bike and Teigan’s favorite color, green. “Teigan likes his dirt bikes and likes his sports, so it’s perfect,” shared the Whitt family, highlighting the personal touch.

The outpouring of support extended far beyond Dugger, with individuals from across the Wabash Valley, including Terre Haute, Sullivan, and Linton, showing up to celebrate Teigan’s homecoming. “Today is the day of celebration with Teigan coming home, and celebrating this homecoming for Matt,” said Pastor Nichols, emphasizing that the event was “an answer to prayers” after a difficult month for the family.
Teigan spent the last month at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis after being injured when an EF-2 tornado touched down in Greene County in mid-May. The devastating incident occurred on May 16th in Linton, Indiana, when a tree fell on his family’s car during the tornado. Tragically, 33-year-old Allison (Allee) McCammon, a mother of four children ranging from 5 to 13 years old, lost her life during the incident. Allee, wife to Matt, was accompanied by three of her sons during the incident. Her middle son, Teigan, 9 years old, was transferred via LifeLine to Riley Children’s Hospital with critical injuries. The other two boys sustained injuries but are thankfully safe.

In a touching gesture, the City of Dugger honored Teigan with a hometown hero medal, recognizing his remarkable perseverance during this tragic time.
Looking ahead, Teigan and his family face a long road to recovery, but the community has pledged unwavering support. “There are four kids, and a dad having to step in, and a grandma, and everybody has to step in and work together,” said Kinnell, underscoring the ongoing need for assistance. “They are going to need all of the support they can get. As a community, we can still give them that, and be with them.”
The local community is organizing a summer event to benefit the McCammon family at the Dugger Community Building on Saturday, July 19th. The event will feature cornhole, 3v3 basketball, a silent auction, and plenty of food.
