BEDFORD – An 18-year-old Springville man, Justin Flynn, tragically drowned Monday afternoon at the Empire Quarry, located near the intersection of Kentucky Hollow and Old State Road 37 North.
Search teams recovered his body at 6:39 p.m.
Authorities were dispatched to the quarry at approximately 3:08 p.m. after receiving a report of a person going under the water and not resurfacing. Initial information was difficult to gather as the caller disconnected.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that Justin Flynn was missing in the water. Two teenage juveniles who were with Flynn at the time of the incident were found safe on shore.
Additional divers and equipment were requested to assist in the search effort.
The incident remains under investigation.
Justin worked at McAlister’s and Blue Spring Caverns. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and exploring nature. His lifelong dream was to be a police officer.. He was a friend to many and loved by everyone who knew him.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 28th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Reno Bates and Brother Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
