VFW Post 1686 Auxiliary to host Independence Day Cookout Fundraiser in Oolitic

OOLITIC— VFW Post 1686 Auxiliary will host a fundraiser cookout on Saturday, July 5, from noon to 3 p.m. at 1686 Veterans Drive in Oolitic, Indiana, in celebration of Independence Day.

The event, open to the public, will feature a classic Fourth of July menu, including hamburgers, hot dogs, and assorted sides. Admission prices are set at $12 for adults ages 12 and over, $6 for children ages 6–11, and free for those 5 and under.

This gathering continues the Auxiliary’s tradition of community support. The Auxiliary serves veterans, active‑duty personnel, and their families with programs focused on patriotism, scholarships, and veteran welfare. VFW Post 1686—also known as Limestone Post—is located at the same address and supports additional activities like scholarship programs and veterans’ assistance services.

While specifics about the lineup for July 5 haven’t been released, past events at the post included food service and community‑oriented activities such as games and camaraderie among members and guests.

Auxiliary officials say the cookout’s goals are twofold: to bring area residents together for a festive holiday afternoon and to raise funds to sustain veteran‑focused programs, including poppy drives, scholarships, and service‑member support initiatives.

The VFW Auxiliary encourages families, neighbors, and veterans to attend.
