Monroe County Democrats call emergency meeting to oppose potential war with Iran, demand Trump impeachment

BLOOMINGTON –Citing grave concerns over the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and what they describe as President Donald Trump’s “lawless warmongering,” the Monroe County Democratic Party (MCDP) is organizing an urgent “all-hands-on-deck” event tonight. The party is calling on all concerned residents to join them in a letter-writing and phone-banking blitz aimed at Indiana’s congressional representatives.

“The United States is being dragged toward an unauthorized, catastrophic war between Israel and Iran,” a statement from the MCDP reads. “Donald Trump is once again acting like he is above the law – bypassing Congress, threatening global stability, and risking American lives for his political gain.”

The MCDP emphasizes that only Congress holds the constitutional authority to declare war and asserts that Trump is “recklessly pushing us to the brink.” They vowed not to “stay silent while he plays dictator.”

The emergency action is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Monroe County Democratic Party Headquarters, located at 115 East 2nd Street, in Bloomington.

Attendees will be encouraged to:

  • FLOOD THE PHONES with calls to Congresswoman Erin Houchin, Senator Jim Banks, and Senator Todd Young, demanding they oppose any unauthorized military action.
  • STUFF THEIR MAILBOXES with letters advocating for the immediate impeachment of Donald Trump for alleged abuse of power and violation of the War Powers Act.
  • RAISE THEIR VOICES collectively to oppose being drawn into “another endless war by a twice-impeached, criminally-indicted former president.”

“This is about lives. This is about democracy. This is about stopping a war before it starts,” the statement stressed, urging participants to bring their phones, friends, and determination. The MCDP will provide talking points, letter templates, addresses for elected officials, snacks, drinks, and a supportive community.

The party’s message concludes with a stark warning: “This is not normal. This is not safe. And this is not how democracy works. Let’s show up, speak out, and demand action. If we don’t stop this now, who will?”
