BEDFORD — The Bedford Recreation Foundation (BRF) has once again stepped up to support local youth, presenting a $2,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.
BRF President Tom Elliott and fellow board members presented the check during a visit to the Club’s annual Summer Camp, which currently accommodates an average of 160 children per day. Ashley Gilstrap, the Club’s Director of Resource Development, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
“The kids are all Club members attending our Summer Camp,” Gilstrap said. “This donation will be used to help continue to provide a safe, enriching environment for our local youth as our attendance numbers continue to grow. The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County could not operate without organizations like BRF, who consistently support the work we do with generous donations.”
The $2,000 donation is part of BRF’s ongoing annual commitment to the Club and was funded through proceeds from the “Try 4 Dye” contest on Hole 17 at the 2024 Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic, held each Labor Day weekend at Otis Park Golf Course.
Several Club members, BRF representatives Tom Elliott (President), Joey Elliott (Tournament Director), and Joey’s grandchildren, Jaxson and Ashlynn York, who are also Club members.
Other BRF board members who could not attend the presentation include: Misty Adams, Holly Davis, Jimmy Jones, and Jesse McKee.
