James M. “Mike” Elliott, 77 of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Westview Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Bedford. Mike was born in Bedford on September 21, 1947, to James M. Elliott and Phyllis June (Smith) Elliott. Mike was a graduate of Shawswick High School Class of 1965, he held an Associate degree from Oakland City University, and Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University, he worked at GE in Bloomington, and was a Martial Arts instructor for 50 years, including many years at the Bedford Boys Club, he had a love of the Martial Arts, and held a 7 th degree Black Belt, along with a 3rd degree Black Belt in Arnis, and a 7th degree Black Belt in Ryukyukampo.
Survivors include one brother, Tim Elliott, one stepdaughter, Tracy Capps, two step-grandchildren, Kylie King and Lindsey Capps, two nieces, Meredith Netzel and Taylor Elliott, two great nephews, Roman Carroll and Everett Netzel, and one great niece, Piper Carroll.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Elliott and Phyllis June Elliott, and one sister, Julie Ann Elliott.
Cremation was chosen, and a celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Lucas Martial Arts Academy, 715 6th Street, Bedford, Indiana. Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his care; condolences may be made at www.cresthavenfh.com.
