Dorothy Ruth Spires, 86, of Bedford, passed away at IU Health Hospice House on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Born on December 30, 1938, she was the daughter of Albert Walton and Gertrude “Fern” (Williams) Walton.
She married Claude Donald Spires, and he preceded her in death. Dorothy spent over 50 years in the local food service industry, having served coffee or prepared a meal for so many over the years, working at Jerry’s, The Hub, and more recently, The White River Lodge. Dorothy was an avid reader who loved animals and could often be found at home curled up with a good book and her beloved rescue kitty (Baby) at her side. Dorothy was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict period.
Dorothy was devoted to family and was a quiet force that helped to raise and hold generations together, one who gave her all and asked for nothing but to be kind to others, be present, and, near the end, only wanted peace and harmony for those she loved and would be leaving behind.
Surviving to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her five children, Pamela Lazell, Patricia (David) Marion, Mike (Trista) Spires Sr., Diane (Jeff) Millstein, David (Sigrid) Walton; 11 Grandchildren, Jessica, Cory, Cody, Dagan, Mike Jr, Lindsey, Shelby, Dustin, Hannah, Kendall, and Zoe; 13 Great- Grandchildren; siblings, John Walton, Charlie Walton, Cathy (Frank) Canada, and Alberta (Bill) Bader; along with several nieces and nephews.
