BEDFORD – After only one year at the helm, Adam Yates has resigned as Bedford North Lawrence’s athletic director.

Yates, who also served as an assistant athletic director at BNL for three years, has accepted the job as athletic director at Peru High School, citing family reasons for the move. He was only the fifth AD in the 51-year history of the school, following Gil Fey, Ray Manis, Mike Short and Jeff Callahan.

“I have had a good time at BNL, met a lot of great people, built life-long relationships,” Yates said. “I loved the coaches and the administration. It’s a great community, a great place to raise a family. We will definitely miss Bedford.”

During his one-year stint, one of multiple transitions in BNL sports, Yates was tasked with hiring new coaches in three major programs (football, boys basketball and girls basketball), plus tennis, girls golf and volleyball.

”I’m proud of the hires,” he said. “I’m proud that there will be a new soccer facility, which was much needed. I’m proud of the relationships that I have built along the way.”

Callahan, who served in the position for 21 years, is expected to be named the interim AD until a permanent replacement is hired.
