BEDFORD — Adam Machida, 34, of Bedford, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison following a guilty plea to murder in the September 30, 2024, shooting death of William “Matthias” Boggs. The sentencing took place on June 16, 2025, in Lawrence County Superior Court I.

Authorities responded to a residence in the 700 block of I Street in Bedford, where Boggs was found deceased in a bathtub with a single gunshot wound to the head. Following an investigation, Machida was arrested and charged with three felonies:
- Murder (sentencing range of 45 to 65 years)
- Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (Level 4 Felony; 2 to 12 years)
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon (Level 6 Felony; 6 months to 2.5 years)
Machida had a prior conviction for armed robbery, which classified him as a serious violent felon and prohibited him from possessing a firearm.

After initially pleading not guilty, Machida changed his plea following the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation. As part of a negotiated agreement, he pleaded guilty to the murder charge, and the remaining charges were dismissed.
He was sentenced to 50 years, with five years suspended to probation. The sentence is concurrent, and Machida received 259 days of jail credit for time served in the Lawrence County Jail.
Machida will be transferred to the Indiana Department of Corrections to begin serving his prison term. Following his release, he will remain on supervised probation.
