WFIU presents Jazz in July concert in Columbus on the 18th

BLOOMINGTONThis year, WFIU Public Radio is returning with the much-awaited Jazz in July, a free outdoor summer concert featuring celebrated jazz artists, at Columbus. The Caswell Sisters will perform at Jazz in July on Friday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at the Bartholomew County Public Library. Should it rain, the concert will be moved indoors to the Columbus Commons.

David Brent Johnson, host of two of WFIU’s long-running jazz programs, Night Lights and Just You & Me, will emcee the performance. Guests are free to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the concert. Food trucks will also be available at the event.

Vocalist Rachel and violinist Sara Caswell’s debut album, Alive in the Singing Air (Turtle Ridge Records) featuring Fred Hersch, was released in 2013 and was selected by jazz critic Thomas Cunniffe as one of the year’s “Best Vocal CDs” on JazzHistory Online.

The talented sibling duo attended Indiana University Bloomington and are now esteemed faculty members at the Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, The New School, New York University, and IU’s Jacobs School of Music. Their careers have witnessed several accolades, including a Grammy nomination for Sara. The Caswell Sisters have recorded with distinguished artists such as the WDR Big Band, Esperanza Spalding, and Chris Potter.

Support for this year’s Jazz in July comes from presenting partner Greene & Schultz Trial Lawyers and supporting partners Columbus Area Visitors Center, WWA Planning & Investments, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Bar-Cons Federal Credit Union.
