GREENE CO. – Greene County officials have announced a tornado debris removal plan to assist residents impacted by the May 16 tornado. The operation is scheduled to run from Monday, June 16, at 8 a.m. until Wednesday, June 25, at 4 p.m.
The county will provide forty 10-yard roll-off bins strategically placed near damaged areas. Residents are responsible for moving construction debris, such as drywall and unpainted wood, to the edge of the county right-of-way for pickup. However, metal, concrete, and cinder blocks are excluded from this service. Greene County will be utilizing funds from its Rainy Day Fund to support this debris removal effort.
It’s important to note that Greene County cannot remove debris from private property. For debris to potentially qualify for reimbursement if funds become available, it must be located on public rights-of-way.
Residents are asked to sort their debris into distinct categories: large appliances, construction debris, vegetative debris, hazardous waste, and electronics. For safety, doors should be removed from large appliances.
For assistance or questions regarding debris removal, residents can contact the Greene County Tornado Hotline at 1-833-HELP-516 or dial 211 for general support. Additionally, financial aid is available at the Disaster Recovery/Disaster Loan Outreach Center located at Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, which will remain open until June 1.
