“Hidden Gems” of Greene and Martin Counties to be revealed at Bedford Park Program

BEDFORD – Local adventurers Janet Eger and Teena Ligman will share their discoveries of “Interesting Places to Visit in Greene and Martin Counties” at the June Bedford Park Program on Tuesday, June 24, at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Otis Park Bath House, located at 1621 Tunnelton Road in Bedford. All ages are invited to attend.

Eger and Ligman have been exploring their neighboring counties, uncovering a variety of outdoor destinations. “We visited some,” Ligman said, “and we weren’t sure what we were going to find. We followed up on obscure notes on the internet and went exploring, and what delightful places we found.”

Ligman recounted one particularly “magical” find: a property off the beaten path where an older man greeted them and spent almost an hour showcasing his land, filled with inspiring sculptures and crafts made from recycled materials. This site, she noted, is visited by local schools around Earth Day to educate students on transforming trash into art.

Eger added that the program will feature the region’s best hiking trails, off-road vehicle areas, beautiful nature preserves, and wildlife areas. They also highlighted their enjoyment of local diners and historic general stores during their explorations. “If anyone doesn’t think our local counties don’t have plenty of incredible places to see, you need to come learn about some of the places we visited,” Eger urged, emphasizing the abundance of “interesting, fun, and mostly free” places to visit in Southern Indiana.

Looking ahead, the July 22 program will feature a walking tour of the Hillcrest Circle Historic District in Bedford, led by Marla Jones and Teena Ligman, promising insights into the surprising history of that quiet neighborhood.
