Mitchell’s City Park celebration brings community together in upcoming Chat and Chill event

MITCHELL, IN – Mitchell Parks & Recreation is hosting “Chat and Chill” at Mitchell City Park on Friday, June 6, inviting the public to enjoy a full day of food, activities, and community engagement. The free event, held at 101 Tom Green Drive, runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is open to residents of all ages.

The event highlights recent park improvements, offers engaging youth and family-friendly programming, and provides a platform for the community to help guide future projects.

Event Details

Location: Mitchell City Park, 101 Tom Green Dr.
Date: Friday, June 6
Time: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Food Trucks: 11 AM – 7 PM
Local favorites 812 BBQ, Bubble Tea Barn, The Sno Shak LLC, and Blues Café will be on-site serving food throughout the afternoon and early evening.

Ribbon Cutting: 4 PM
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. to officially dedicate the park’s new basketball court and pickleball courts. City officials, Parks & Recreation staff, and the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance.

Kids Activities: 5 PM – 7 PM
Organized games will be held on the new basketball court, including a 3-point contest. Prizes will be awarded in several age categories.

Playground Campaign Kick-Off: 5 PM – 8 PM:
The public is invited to learn more about the upcoming Project Playground initiative. Survey stations will be available for adults to provide feedback, and kids can participate in crafts at the Park Shelter.

Night Swim: 9 PM – 11 PM
A weather-permitting night swim at the Mitchell Community Pool will close out the evening.

The Event’s Purpose

Chat and Chill provides an opportunity for the public to enjoy the newly renovated park while helping shape the future of Mitchell’s recreational spaces. It is supported by the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, whose mission is to promote the general welfare of the Mitchell area, support local enterprise, and foster civic pride.

The event serves as both a community celebration and a planning opportunity for the future of Mitchell’s public spaces.
