AUBURN – The individual shot in an officer-involved shooting in Auburn on the evening of June 1, 2025, has been identified as Kyle Leins, 44, of Auburn. Preliminary information indicates that Mr. Leins was shot after allegedly presenting a gun and firing at Auburn Police Officers. He is currently recovering from surgery at a local hospital.
The incident unfolded at approximately 6:30 p.m. when DeKalb County dispatch received a call reporting a male who had entered a residence in the 300 block of W. 11th Street in Auburn and pointed a gun at a subject. Auburn Police Department officers responded to the location, but the man had already fled the area.
Auburn Police Department officers located Leins a short time later near the residence. An armed confrontation ensued, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which Leins was injured. As soon as it was deemed safe, Auburn Police Officers rendered first aid to Leins until medics arrived, at which point he was transported to a local hospital. No officers were injured during the incident.
The Auburn Police Officer involved in the shooting has been identified as Noah Woollweever. Officer Woollweever has been placed on administrative leave for three days, a standard procedure per Auburn Police Department policy.
The Indiana State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting at the request of the Auburn Police Department. Following this ongoing investigation, all information will be submitted to the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The Indiana State Police were assisted by the Auburn Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Garrett Police Department, Avilla Police Department, Auburn Fire Department, and Parkview EMS.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
