Seymour home sustains fire damage; Fire Department stresses smoke alarm and clutter dangers

SEYMOUR – On Friday, May 30, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Seymour Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a single-family home on the west side of the city. Fire crews arrived on the scene within four minutes of dispatch.

Despite encountering multiple obstructions inside the residence that made entry difficult, firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and successfully extinguished the blaze within five minutes. One occupant was inside the home at the time of the fire but was able to self-evacuate and call 911. Investigators noted that there were no working smoke alarms in the house when the fire occurred. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Seymour Fire Department is using this incident as a reminder to the community about crucial safety measures. They urge all residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke detectors at all times. Additionally, the department highlighted the dangers associated with cluttered or hoarding conditions within a home. Such conditions can increase the risk of falls, illness, fires, and structural damage, and can also pose severe hazards to first responders during emergencies.
