SEYMOUR – The Seymour Mayor’s office is currently accepting applications from high school students interested in serving on the Mayor’s Youth Council.
The Youth Council functions as an advisory board, providing insights and recommendations to the mayor on issues that impact the community’s youth. Members will have the opportunity to participate in city meetings, tour city facilities, listen to guest speakers, and engage in various other leadership development activities. Participants should be prepared to attend youth council meetings up to twice a month throughout the school year.
Applications are open to students entering grades 9 through 12 this fall, whether attending Seymour High School or homeschooling.
The Youth Council is an advisory board that:
A. Advises the Mayor on issues affecting youth in the community and appoints its executive committee.
B. Consists of members appointed annually, in grades 9 to 12, from each high school in Seymour, as well as youth from the community at large.
C. Meets up to twice a month on dates set by the youth council. Members are required to participate in meetings from August through May.
D. Develop an annual event or project, or serve as advisors in pre-existing events.
E. Promotes civic commitment and community volunteerism.
