BEDFORD– A traffic stop landed a Bloomington man behind bars on drug charges and an outstanding warrant on Sunday, May 18, after police stopped a vehicle in which he was a passenger after police were alerted the driver had a suspended driver’s license.
Kevin Ray Sexton, 56, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding warrant from Monroe County.

According to a Probable Cause Affidavit filed by Lawrence County Police Officer Kenton Carter, the incident occurred around 7:08 p.m. Officer Carter was parked in a commercial lot when he observed a white Kia with a temporary Indiana license plate. Another officer had previously noted the vehicle.
Officer Carter initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of 17th and Q Streets. The initial reason for the stop was that the driver’s license was found to be suspended. While speaking with the driver, Officer Carter requested identification from the passenger, later identified as Sexton, who voluntarily provided his information.
A check through NCIC/IDACS revealed that Sexton had an active warrant for his arrest out of Monroe County. Sexton was asked to exit the vehicle and was detained. Upon questioning, Sexton allegedly disclosed to Officer Carter that he had “a little bit of meth and some weed” on his person, along with a broken “stem.” These items were subsequently located in Sexton’s right pants pocket. Monroe County authorities confirmed the extradition for the warrant.
Sexton was handcuffed and transported to the Lawrence County Security Center by Officer Miller. The suspected methamphetamine, including packaging, weighed approximately 0.9 grams. The marijuana and broken stem were reportedly destroyed.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
